Isaac Cohen
About Isaac
Isaac has been playing the saxophone for over 20 years, bringing a rich blend of influences rooted in his New Orleans upbringing to his music. Growing up surrounded by the city's vibrant traditions of jazz, rock and roll, blues, and funk, he developed a deep musical foundation that continues to inform his playing and artistic voice today.
Inspired by legends like Kenni Holmen, Sonny Rollins, Gerry Mulligan, Horace Silver, and Grover Washington Jr., Isaac honed his craft under the guidance of some of Boston and Vermont's finest musicians, including Scott Mullet and Ron Kelley. He continues to develop his artistry as an active student of Grammy-nominated saxophonist Mike Tucker from Salem, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to musical growth and excellence.
These days, you can catch him playing regularly with multiple groups including The Rusty Randoms, The Patch Notes, Slapback and The Pitfalls throughout the greater Boston and Providence area. While he primarily plays tenor and baritone saxophones, he's also proficient on the alto and soprano, making him a versatile force in any lineup. His combination of deep traditional roots, continuous study with top-tier mentors, and active performance schedule makes him a well-rounded and dedicated musician ready to contribute to any professional ensemble.
